Lake Taupo
Saturday, July 15, 2006
Family arranged a trip to taupo. "Family Bonding" was what my mum said she intended for the holiday...well, dont think its applicable to me as i already made my siblings swore that they will come and help me get out if i were to get into prison(prison break styles) and that is all i want.
Turns out, it was not too bad. We went to Mt Ruapehu and weather was great. As we could not possibly afford to bring the whole family for skiing, we decided to just play around the nearby hills. Thick, white, soft snow under our feet as we made our way along the terrain. We climb up this steep slope and slide down from the top. Poor butts. Soaking wet.
Meet snow white and the fellowship

Getting acquainted with my sis

Bro doing some sort of weird tribal dance

Wah...can make heaps of ice kacang man
The next day, we hang out arround Lake Taupo and went kayaking. So there i was, in the middle of the lake looking at mother nature's beautiful creation when suddenly i got too relax. Somehow my kayak over turned and i was swimming for dear life. haha...dont know what happen leh....maybe a hot chick passing by and i got too carried away.

Kayaking isnt my forte i guess
And then we went to taupo bungy. Its was scary standing on top of a cantilever like structre hanging out a cliff. They had all types of bungy jumps such as the leap of faith(jump backwards) , baptism of water(upon descend, getting soak in water), piggy back and even a boobie jump (where u take off your top and jump, this jump was cheaper, and rightly so). I summoned all my courage and.....
BUNGY!!!!

Wow...it was great.....seeing someone bungy in real live. I felt his fear and got all the adrenalin rush i wanted for FREE...hehehe.....sorry lar guys...ill bungy "when the time is right".

World Champions 2006
Thursday, July 13, 2006
Are you kidding?
You have to be kidding.
Are you bleeping kidding?
How in the name of all that is holy and insane did the Italians won the world cup? Against a 9 men crappy US team and still only managed to get a draw?. With Italians players falling apart in all its country's domestic scandals? With the gunslinging Brazilians laughing and hugging in a joyous mood in training prior for the world cup?
World Champions: Italy
That's not a joke or a misprint.
Believe it.
Believe.
Italy went from a nation disgraced by football fixing scandals to World Champions. If you went to bed early or gave up on the Italians, all you missed was the single most important rally in the country's last 24-year history (the last time the Italians won the world cup).
What??...needed a last minute penalty kick to beat first timers Australia.
Alessandro Nesta, Italy's best defender, injured.
Daniele De Rossi, one of Italy's key players suspended for 4 matches.
Francesco Totti, the hope of Italy in offense, didnt played up to expectations.
Surely, they cant be world champions.
Are you kidding?
You have to be kidding.
Are you bleeping kidding?
This result, given the circumstances, wouldn't have been any stranger if tournament had included a Bigfoot sighting, a space-ship landing on the field and a referee being eaten by an anaconda.
Fabio Grosso, a player playing in Italy's fourth division in 2000-01, scored the game's most important goal in injury time against the Germans and scoring the last penalty kick to seal the victory.
Furthermore, Gianluca Zambrotta, a player who had only scored one goal his entire career, got the opening goal against Ukraine.
A team renown for its tendency to defend throughout the match bringing in strikers late in their game to go for the win.
The final. What a majestic, mesmerizing game. Breathtaking, literally. The players, the fans -- it took your breath away. France couldn't penetrate a stingy Italian defence led by the, player of the tournament in my opinion, Cannavaro. Only way that they could score is by a 50-50 penalty decision.
Matterazzi, paparazzi??...."who the heck was this guy?" I thought, when he came in to replace Nesta. Gattusso, having just fought off an injury, limped throughout the match against the United States. Alessandro Del Piero, too old and way past his prime were what the critics said. And Italians penalty takers, as often happens, teetered between horrible and disgusting.
That was the Italian's heros.
Italy does not deserve to win?
Are you kidding?
You have to be kidding.
Are you bleeping kidding?

The finals are upon us and those of ya that have no clue whats going on....heres the scoop:
FRANCE vs ITALY
Italy in blue take on the french in white
Referee: Argentinian referee Horacio Elizondo is the official of this match. He is the guy who sent of Wayne Rooney against Portugal. He has a reputation for brandishing red cards so players must be careful. Italy's Cameronessi is an argentian so he might be able to pull some strings with this ref.
Defenders :
Cannavarro vs Thuram - I might be slightly bias as i love Cannavarro. His defending and read of the game is excellent. On the other hand, thuram has been playing well for the french as well. Tough call but if game goes over 90 minutes, you may see Thuram losing some steam as he is already 34 years of age. As for the fullbacks, Abidal and Sagnol looks shaky at times while Grosso and Zambrotta can be dangerous in attack.
Midfielders :
Pirlo vs Zidane - Needless to say Zidane has been in fine form lately. Much of the french attack will be dictated by him. Pirlo has also had an outstanding tournament. Key here is whether both these players will have enough time on the ball to create chances. Im sure defensive midfielders such as makalele for france and Gattuso for Italy will be told to mark Pirlo and Zidane closely. France has a slight edge in the wings with Ribery playing freakishly good at the moment.
Strikers :
Luca Toni vs Henry - Both strikers will have their work cut out for them. They will play identical roles as lone strikers. However, italy has Totti who plays just behind Toni and that will give them a slight advantage in attack. Luca Toni also provides an aerial threat to the defense while Henry is useless in the air and makes up for it by dribbling . Henry however is a master at diving. He is as fragile as paper and will fall under any contact whatsoever.
Goalkeepers :
Buffon vs Barthez - Clearly, without a doubt, buffon is better. Barthez is a clown and was lucky to escape with some mistakes in all his matches. Buffon is also good at saving penalties while barthez is good at letting his defenders kiss his bald head for good luck.
Verdict: Italy should attack france in the flanks where i feel Abidal is their weakest link. Use their fullbacks to give some extra dimension in attack. Also, link up play with totti and toni is crucial, try a few long range efforts to test barthez. As for france, nvm.....they'll lose anyway.
So hopefully Italy does the job, then ill be a happy (and wealthy) man.

Destination North Shore
Thursday, July 06, 2006
Sincerest apologies to the italian team..boy, did i got it wrong...Cannavaro was a colossal, Matterazzi defended magnificently, Pirlo made that important pass, Grosso with a thumping finish and Buffon was impenetrable. Viva la Azzurri...credit to the Germans as well for thier staunch defense and much thanks to the goalless draw in 90 minutes...it was a beauty!!... So for ITALIA, i put my trust in you to beat the irritating french. Im going all in for the finals for italy to get the job done, so please italy, BEAT THE FRENCH and ill promise:
- Never again to mock the italian team.
- Have my honeymoon in italy
- Give my child an italian name (welcome to the world, Luca Toni Cheah)
- Make pasta my favourite food
- Start drinking cheap italian booze
- Start using hand gestures extensively
Come on Italy!!!.....Go Go Go
Anyway, woke up yesterday to watch Germany take on Italy with friends in Cin Yi house (thats how Bin spells it). We all cuddled into a small area, most of us still half asleep. Some supported Germany cause our good friend, Mr Lum was playing for them. I was completely neutral and wanted nothing more but a goalless draw.
And thats just what i got...wonderful, after the match, left to North Shore for some yum cha. I must admit, North Shore is uncharted territory for me and i must say its quite a beautiful place. We played some 3 on 3 football (so sorry Catz, Thank God its padded) and beach football (boon showed all his football skills). Went to Jason's house after that and watched Prision Break. IM SOLD!!!....this is a bloody good series and it makes me proud to be a structural engineer (shame u mechanicians). I would expect to soon tatoo the layout of Auckland Uni map on my body so if anyone needs to escape from their lectures, feel free to come and approach me.
After 7 episodes, we finally gave in and slept. At about 7am, woke up and watch France vs Portugal with jason, boon and bin. I dont care what they say but i still think henry dived for that penalty....his reactions were clearly "delayed". This provoke furious reactions from the portugese and things got ugly, the portugese started diving everywhere and the game from then on was rubbish. Fact of the matter is this, france is in and its a shame as i thoroughly hate them so its once again back to my fellow italians friends to do the job....Come on Italy!!! GO GO GO
Much man love in the italian contigent (see extreme left)

Another reason why u gotta love the Italians

A series of unfortunate events

The title says it all really...came back from workshop on thurs with a blend of mix feelings and attitudes. Exicted coz ill proabably be watching football with jun bin and all in jason's house but also feeling kinda worn out. My fatigue got progressively bad that night as i got to bed at about 9pm.
Woke up in the wee hours of friday morning, stomach growling in pain, head spining as fast as a dentist drill (which is by the way, the fastest rotating object in the world at a 1/4 million rpm, cool fact ay..) What felt like hours of pain manifested itself through a fair chunk of vomit. And minutes later, the remainding vomit decided to "erupt" out of the other hole (of coz not the ear lar...). My immediate concern was how was i going to go for my LAST workshop day on friday.
So i thought ill just toughened it out in the morning.
Woke up at 7 on friday after a number of visits to the toilet, feeling no better than i was. Had no choice but to miss the last day of my workshop practise. Slept for preety much the whole day on friday and felt as sick as a dog. During mid evening, i woke up and realise that i did not buy my bets for 2morrow's game.
Shucks, nothing much i can do....what i would've bet for the germany vs argentina match was germany qualify, draw 90 minutes and germany on penalties. Well, guess what...all the freakin bets came true...just my luck, i would've fetch up a 80 bucks profit with only a 15 dollar investment if i actually did bet.
So not only i was thoroughly sick, missed my workshop, missed out watching football with my friends but also missed out winning the biggest profit of my life.
Life has a funny way to screw u up sometimes....im here, lying on my bed, writting this and thinking, thinking of all the what if's...ARGH!!!....why????...( pulls hair and swears violently)
The end of my rant.
p/s: sorry JB for not being able to make it on friday and sorry jason and boon for not being able to watch football with u guys..wouldve love to...DAMN!!!!
